The founder of the New Kingdom
Ahmose I completed the conquest and expulsion of the Hyksos from the Nile Delta, finishing a brutal war initiated by his predecessors in Thebes. He successfully captured the Hyksos capital of Avaris and pursued their fleeing forces into southern Canaan, laying siege to the city of Sharuhen. His decisive victories reunited Egypt and officially established the 18th Dynasty. He also launched military campaigns south into Nubia to restore Egyptian control over valuable trade routes and gold mines.
