A period of consolidation
Amenhotep I inherited a peaceful and reunified kingdom. He focused heavily on domestic administration and rebuilding neglected temples, particularly the massive complex at Karnak. He also launched military expeditions deep into Nubia to expand the southern borders and ensure total control over the region's trade network. He and his mother, Ahmose-Nefertari, were highly venerated after their deaths and became the patron deities of the royal tomb builders' village at Deir el-Medina.
